The Challenge

Victoria University is a multi-sector institution (Higher Education and TAFE) with excellence in teaching, training, research and scholarships. Based in the CBD and western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria University comprises 11 campuses, two halls of residency and over 50,000 students. Victoria University is conscious of their impact on the environment and seeks to engage suppliers who share their vision of a healthier planet.

Victoria University were looking to reduce their labour-intensive mail service, and regain some onsite real estate that could be better utilised as learning spaces.

“Canon Business Services ANZ was able to reduce our mail courier expenses and management costs, as well as our mail transport emissions. It’s important to us that Canon Business Services ANZ is also addressing their own environmental impacts through their ISO certified Environmental Management System.”

Laurie Farrugia, Assoc Director Operations Planning, Facilities Department, Victoria University

The Solution

Canon Business Services ANZ (formerly Converga) was chosen for its proven mailroom experience and commitment to environmental and sustainability initiatives.

Canon Business Services ABZ (CBS) transitioned Victoria University from multi-site in-house mailrooms to one centralised off-site mailroom solution at CBS’ Technology Centre in South Melbourne. CBS now processes all Victoria University’s mail at our facility in South Melbourne, including 1,000 incoming mail items, 750 internal mail items, 1,000 outgoing mail items and 340 internal library tub movements every single day.

The Results

CBS’ outsourced mailroom solution is significantly reducing costs compared to the previous in-house process; achieving a huge 50% cost saving for Victoria University. CBS has also streamled and improved mail delivery, and helped reduce Victoria University’s carbon footprint.
